意匠法の改正がとうとう閣議決定されたとのニュースが経済産業省のウエブサイトに掲載されています。

店舗の内装や建物の外観が意匠として保護されるという改正がとうとう実現します。いつになるかわからない、とのうわさもありましたが、意外に早かったです。
この改正には、ほかにも画期的な保護対象の追加が含まれています。
クラウドに記憶されており、インターネットを通じて画面に表示される画像(例、乗換ガイダンスサイトを画面に表示し、そこに表示されている画像)
道路や壁などに映し出された画像
この意匠の改正については著作権法改正のような物議を醸しだすこともなく、近いうちに公布されるでしょう。

A bill for the amendment to the Design Law was approved by the Cabinet at last. It was announced on the website of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The amendment—in which shop interiors, building appearances, etc. will be protected as designs—will be realized at last. I heard that it’s uncertain when this amendment will take effect, but it was unexpected how it was passed so early.
This amendment also includes a breakthrough addition of objects to be protected:
images stored in clouds and displayed on screen via the Internet (for example, images on an Internet site providing train transfer guidance that are displayed on screen);
images projected on roads or walls, etc.

This Design Law amendment will not cause any controversy (unlike the Copyright Law amendment) and will be promulgated in the near future.
